The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has introduced the Critical Minerals-to-Manufacturing Financing Partnership Facility to bolster critical minerals supply chains in Asia and the Pacific. This facility aims to transition developing economies into higher-value sectors related to clean energy and advanced technology. It features two components: a grant-based window for early-stage project preparation, which has received $20 million from Japan and $1.6 million from the United Kingdom, and a second window designed to mobilize $1 billion in cofinancing from partners like Korea Eximbank and the Korea Trade Insurance Corporation. ADB President Masato Kanda emphasized that critical minerals are pivotal for the next industrial era and that Asia-Pacific should not only supply raw materials but also capture the associated jobs and technology. The initiative aligns with ADB's 2025 strategy to create sustainable critical minerals-to-manufacturing value chains, supporting projects in countries like India, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and the Philippines. All projects will adhere to ADBโs environmental and social safeguards, ensuring responsible supply chain practices.
