Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Thiru. C. Joseph Vijay has called on the Union Government to abolish NEET-based admissions for medical courses, suggesting that states should fill seats using Class 12 marks instead. This plea follows the cancellation of the NEET-UG 2026 examination due to a question paper leak, which has left lakhs of aspiring medical students disillusioned. CM Vijay highlighted that the introduction of NEET has disproportionately affected students from rural areas and socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds. He reiterated the Tamil Nadu government's long-standing opposition to NEET, citing previous instances of exam compromises, including a similar paper leak in 2024. The National Testing Agency (NTA), responsible for conducting the exam, acknowledged the situation as embarrassing but emphasized its commitment to ensuring a fair examination process. The NEET-UG paper leak has sparked nationwide protests, with calls for improved accountability and safeguards in the examination system.
