A massive explosion at a firecracker manufacturing unit in Kattanarpatti, located in Virudhunagar district, Tamil Nadu, has resulted in the deaths of at least 16 individuals and injuries to six others. The incident occurred on April 19, while approximately 30 workers were present at the facility. Authorities have confirmed that 8 bodies have been recovered from the site, with ongoing rescue operations aimed at locating additional workers who may be trapped in the collapsed structure. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin expressed his sorrow over the tragedy, extending condolences to the victims' families and directing ministers K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran and Thangam Thennarasu to the scene to oversee rescue efforts and provide support to the bereaved families. This explosion follows another similar incident in the same district earlier in the week, raising concerns about safety standards in firecracker manufacturing.
