Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann met Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi to address the delays in highway and infrastructure projects in Punjab. Mann urged the Centre to eliminate bottlenecks affecting the timely completion of several key corridors and flyovers, emphasizing the need for upgrades to strategically significant state roads. He specifically requested national highway status for the Ferozepur-Fazilka corridor, which is vital for connectivity near the International Border, and for the Chandigarh-Landran-Chunni-Sirhind road, which serves as a crucial link between SAS Nagar and Fatehgarh Sahib districts. During the meeting, Gadkari assured support for various road projects, including the four-laning of the Bhawanigarh-Kotshamir road and the expansion of the Barnala-Bajakhana and Malerkotla-Barnala stretches. A significant focus was placed on the delayed Wallah flyover project in Amritsar, which connects Amritsar airport with Harmandir Sahib and is essential for heavy traffic and VIP movement. Mann also sought expedited approval for the Jalandhar-Hoshiarpur-Manali road project, which has faced contractor-related issues since its sanctioning in 2016. The Union minister acknowledged the role of Punjab’s 'Sadak Surakhya Force' in enhancing road safety enforcement in the state.
