A Hisar court has permitted Rampal, a controversial preacher, to appear via video conferencing in an ongoing sedition case related to the 2014 violence at the Satlok Ashram in Barwala, Hisar, Haryana, India. The court, presided over by additional sessions judge Jasmine Sharma, accepted a request from Rampal's counsel, Mahender Singh Nain, who cited security concerns for the virtual appearance. The Haryana Police supported this plea, urging the court to expedite the matter due to security issues. Rampal, who was granted bail by the Punjab and Haryana High Court earlier this year, is currently residing at the Satlok Ashram in his native Dhamana village in Sonepat district. He faces serious charges, including attempt to murder and waging war against the state, under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). The next hearing is scheduled for May 16, with the option for future hearings to also occur virtually.
