Many mutual fund investors believe that starting their Systematic Investment Plans (SIPs) at the beginning of the month is the best strategy. However, research indicates that the timing of SIPs, whether at the start, middle, or end of the month, does not significantly affect the final corpus. A study covering a decade from February 2013 to February 2023 found that SIPs initiated on different dates yielded returns ranging from 12.07% to 12.19%, with the benchmark index slightly higher at 12.78% to 12.89%. For a monthly SIP of ₹10,000, the final corpus varied only marginally, growing to approximately ₹22.4 lakh to ₹22.62 lakh. This suggests that the timing of investments is less important than maintaining consistency and aligning SIPs with salary deposits. Investors are encouraged to prioritize their investments to avoid lower contributions at the month's end, emphasizing that success in SIPs relies on discipline and long-term commitment.
