PEERS RVA is launching a Social Skills Summer Camp at Buckingham County High School, scheduled from June 8 to June 12, 2026. This camp is inspired by the acclaimed series 'Love on the Spectrum' and aims to provide evidence-based social skills training for neurodivergent individuals aged 14 to 30. Utilizing the UCLA-developed PEERS® curriculum, created by Elizabeth Laugeson, the program includes lessons on essential topics such as handling disagreements, navigating dating and relationships, using humor appropriately, and effective online and phone communication. Families have reported significant benefits from the program; one parent noted that their son enjoyed the camp and improved his confidence while making connections with peers. Holly Roper, co-founder of PEERS RVA, emphasized that the camps offer a supportive environment for participants to develop and practice new skills for building genuine relationships. This initiative is part of PEERS RVA's broader effort to expand its reach across more than 10 localities in Virginia, addressing the critical need for social connection among neurodivergent youth.
