US Space Command has launched a new series of classified wargames known as Apollo Insight, designed to simulate various threats in space, including a nuclear weapon detonation in orbit. General Stephen Whiting, the head of Space Command, revealed details about the initiative during a discussion at the Mitchell Institute for Aerospace Studies. The first exercise, which has already taken place, gathered over 60 commercial companies to explore the implications of a nuclear payload in orbit, a scenario that would breach the Outer Space Treaty. The wargame also included participation from allies such as Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom, emphasizing the importance of domain awareness in maintaining US and allied space superiority. Space Command plans to conduct a total of four tabletop exercises this year to enhance collaborative strategies in addressing potential threats in the increasingly contested space environment.
