Nalla Suresh Reddy, a philanthropist from Paloncha in Kothagudem district, has initiated a public interest litigation in the Supreme Court to address accountability in the electoral process by requesting timestamps on Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) slips. He argues that the absence of exact time-stamping creates significant audit gaps, particularly in situations involving disputes over timing or discrepancies in voter turnout. Reddy emphasized that this initiative aims to enhance electoral transparency and ensure a fair election process, distancing it from political motivations. The Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice Surya Kant, has directed the Supreme Court Registry to send the petition to the Election Commission of India (ECI) for consideration. Reddy plans to submit a representation to the ECI soon, highlighting the importance of time-stamped slips in auditing the electoral process. The court acknowledged that while the concerns raised relate to electoral integrity, the implementation of such timestamps pertains to technical feasibility, which falls under the ECI's purview.
