On June 6, Ukraine launched a significant drone attack targeting various locations across Russia, including the St. Petersburg region, coinciding with the final day of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. Authorities in St. Petersburg ordered residents to stay indoors and suspended public transport as the attack unfolded. The Russian Defense Ministry reported that many of the drones were intercepted, but some managed to strike, including a drone that hit a military facility, prompting a lockdown in one district. This marked the second drone assault during the forum, following an earlier strike that targeted an oil complex and military base, sending smoke into the sky. The attacks appear intended to deter potential investors and demonstrate Ukraine's ability to bypass Russian air defenses. In total, over 376 Ukrainian drones were detected across more than a dozen regions, with reports of damage to an oil depot in the Krasnodar region. Ukraine's recent drone operations have increasingly focused on Russia's oil infrastructure, aiming to disrupt its export capabilities amid reports of gasoline shortages in several regions, attributed partly to seasonal factors.
