The recent fireworks blast at a manufacturing unit in Mundathicode, Thrissur district, Kerala, which claimed 14 lives, has prompted officials to scale down the upcoming Thrissur Pooram celebrations scheduled for April 26. While the festival's ritual components will continue, the traditional fireworks display will be significantly reduced. Paramekavu Devaswom Secretary G Rajesh announced that only one round of crackers will be burst as a symbolic gesture. The ceremonial exchange of decorated umbrellas, known as Kudamattam, will also be held in a curtailed manner, with only 15 sets of umbrellas displayed.
