Registrations on the National Career Service (NCS) portal, a key digital platform for job matching in India, saw a significant decline in the fiscal year 2025-26 (FY26). Active registrations by skill providers dropped by over 70%, from 920 in FY25 to just 273, marking the lowest level since FY17. Similarly, registrations from placement organisations plummeted 90.6%, falling from 181 to only 17. Jobseeker registrations also fell sharply, decreasing by about 40% from 14.6 million in FY25 to 8.7 million as of February 28, 2026. This decline occurs despite the government's push for greater digitization of labor market services, including the introduction of multiple platforms like the Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH). Experts, including Bornali Bhandari from the National Council of Applied Economic Research, suggest that the existence of numerous overlapping portals may confuse users and limit adoption. The Ministry of Labour and Employment has acknowledged the need for integration among these platforms to streamline services and improve user experience, with efforts already underway to link the NCS with other portals like e-Shram and Udyam. The goal is to create a unified interface for accessing various services related to skilling, training, and job opportunities.
