Recently, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences asked its followers to name their favorite romance film that involves travel, listing DDLJ alongside other films such as 'You, Me and Tuscany', 'The Holiday', and 'Eat Pray Love'. Kajol responded by voting for DDLJ, stating her preference on social media. Fans echoed her sentiments, calling it an 'obvious choice' due to its timeless appeal and ability to be enjoyed repeatedly. DDLJ was primarily filmed in picturesque locations across Switzerland, London, and India, including notable sites like Saanen, Gstaad, and Interlaken. The film remains a cult classic, especially among non-resident Indian (NRI) audiences. To celebrate its 30th anniversary, a bronze statue of the film's beloved characters, Raj and Simran, was unveiled in Leicester Square in December 2025.
