The Maharashtra government has approved a revised plan for the Nagpur-Goa Shaktipeeth Expressway, extending its length by 54 km to 856.765 km and increasing the estimated cost to ₹1 lakh crore (approximately $120 million USD). This redesigned expressway will now include a stretch through Satara district, passing through villages Gondawale and Shikhar Shinganapur. The project will enhance connectivity across 13 districts, significantly improving travel times between Nagpur and Goa, which could drop from 18 hours to just 8 hours. The expressway is also set to connect 21 pilgrimage sites, including notable Shaktipeeths like Mahur, Tuljapur, and Kolhapur. The project faced opposition from farmers due to concerns over land acquisition and environmental impacts, leading to a redesign after initial plans were put on hold. With land acquisition set to commence, the Maharashtra State Roads Development Corporation (MSRDC) is moving forward with the project, which is expected to boost economic activity in the region.
