The Karnataka government has issued a Government Order mandating the audit of all adolescent pregnancies involving girls aged 10 to 18 years. This initiative aims to address the significant public health concerns associated with adolescent pregnancies, which often lead to complications and adverse outcomes. The audits will be conducted by Taluk Health Officers (THOs) across the state, covering cases reported from both government and private health facilities. The audits will examine factors such as age at marriage, educational status, and access to reproductive health services. In light of global estimates indicating that nearly half of adolescent pregnancies are unintended, the initiative seeks to systematically review existing gaps in health programs like the National Health Mission (NHM) and the Rashtriya Kishor Swasthya Karyakram (RKSK). Following the audits, measures such as counseling, contraceptive services, and identification of vulnerable adolescents will be implemented. The program will be executed within the current frameworks of NHM and RKSK, ensuring no additional financial burden on the state. Confidentiality and compliance with child protection laws will be strictly maintained.
