The Higher Education Department of Maharashtra has commenced efforts to fill long-standing vacancies for assistant professors, librarians, and directors of physical education in state universities and affiliated colleges. A circular issued on April 11 mandates that colleges conduct roster verification before recruitment, which must be completed based on student strength as of October 1, 2025. Institutions are required to ensure compliance with all applicable Government Resolutions (GR) while determining reservations. The final roster register must be certified prior to any hiring. Detailed data on sanctioned and vacant posts has been provided for Pune, Ahmednagar, and Nashik districts. The exact number of vacancies will be finalized after the roster certification, with recruitment proceeding according to approved reservations coordinated with the Backward Class Cell. This initiative is expected to facilitate large-scale recruitment and alleviate staffing shortages in higher education institutions.
