Helen and Jacob Shaham, founders of The Palace Group, have made a historic donation of $30 million to Florida International University’s (FIU) Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine. This is the largest gift in the college's two-decade history, aimed at enhancing medical education, research, and patient care. FIU President Jeanette M. Núñez hailed the donation as a landmark moment, emphasizing its potential to elevate the college and contribute to a world-class academic health center. The donation will fund the future Helen and Jacob Shaham Academic Medical Center, a seven-story facility set to open in 2028 on FIU’s main campus in West Miami-Dade. The center will be managed by Baptist Health, South Florida’s largest not-for-profit healthcare system, and will provide a range of outpatient services. The Shahams, who immigrated to Miami from Israel, expressed their commitment to expanding access to medical education and preparing future physicians. Their philanthropic efforts also include a previous $15 million donation to Nicklaus Children’s Hospital for pediatric cancer care.
