Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have faced a disappointing start to the IPL 2026 season, losing their first two matches for the first time since 2012. Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar has advised the team to reconsider their batting combination if all-rounder Cameron Green continues to play only as a specialist batter. Gavaskar noted that while Green has previously demonstrated his batting prowess, his recent form has not been promising, particularly in the crucial No. 5 and No. 6 batting positions. KKR's bowling attack has been affected by injuries, making effective batting even more critical. Gavaskar emphasized that if Green cannot contribute with his bowling, KKR might need to bring in another specialist batter. The team invested a record ₹25.20 crore (approximately $3 million USD) in Green, expecting him to fill the void left by Andre Russell. However, due to a back stress injury, Cricket Australia has restricted Green from bowling in competitive matches to prevent further aggravation ahead of a demanding international season.
