In a recent review meeting, Ashwini Bhide, the Municipal Commissioner of Mumbai, confirmed that the city's ambitious road concretisation project is on track to be completed by May 2027. The project, which aims to cover 700 km of roads, is divided into two phases. The first phase will involve 300 km of roads, expected to be completed by December 2026, while the second phase will cover 391 km. This initiative, proposed by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, aims to eliminate potholes and enhance road quality across Mumbai. Bhide emphasized that there would be no extensions granted to contractors and that the quality of work must be maintained. Currently, 72% of the total road work has been completed, with 14.6% in progress and 13.1% yet to start. Additionally, BJP MLA Ameet Satam reported a significant decrease in pothole repair costs, dropping from ₹202 crore in 2023-24 to an expected ₹44 crore for the current year, marking a 50% reduction.
