Exporters in Ludhiana, Punjab, India, are experiencing significant disruptions due to the ongoing war in West Asia, particularly affecting trade routes through the Strait of Hormuz. During a recent meeting of the Association of Trade and Industrial Undertakings (ATIU), industry leaders expressed urgent concerns over order cancellations, payment delays, and rising logistics costs. Key sectors impacted include engineering goods, hosiery, and garments. Exporters reported that shipments to destinations like Dubai, Riyadh, and Kuwait are severely affected, with cargo being diverted to smaller ports, causing congestion and delays. Shipping lines have also imposed steep charges, ranging from $2,000 to $6,000 per container, adding to the financial burden. Industry leaders warn that continued disruptions could lead to a collapse in buyer confidence and long-term damage to export relationships. ATIU has formally requested the Indian Ministry of Commerce to intervene and provide relief measures to support the struggling exporters.
