The Delhi government has revised its commercial LPG distribution policy, making it compulsory for industrial and commercial consumers to apply for a piped natural gas (PNG) connection before they can receive new LPG cylinder allocations. This change, outlined in an order from the Department of Food, Supplies, and Consumer Affairs, aims to alleviate pressure on LPG supplies amid ongoing international conflicts affecting gas imports. The order stipulates that deliveries to commercial LPG users will only be allowed if they have applied for a PNG connection with Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) and completed all necessary formalities, where PNG infrastructure is available. In areas lacking PNG infrastructure, a written declaration of intent to connect will suffice. Oil marketing companies (OMCs) are tasked with verifying compliance with this new regulation. The policy comes as the demand for PNG connections in Delhi has surged, with daily applications increasing from 684 in February to over 2,000 in March. The additional commissioner of the food supplies department emphasized the importance of applying for the correct category of connection to avoid disruptions. Consumers are encouraged to report any suspicious activities related to LPG supply through designated helplines.
