Indian students are shifting their focus from traditional study abroad destinations such as the US, UK, Canada, and Australia to countries like New Zealand, Ireland, and parts of Europe. This change is driven by various factors, including stricter visa regulations, rising costs, and uncertain job outcomes. According to Mayank Maheshwari, Co-Founder & COO of University Living, many countries have tightened immigration rules or increased fees, leading to a more cautious approach among students. For instance, inquiries for studying in Canada have dropped by 70-80% due to new immigration caps. In contrast, New Zealand's recent decision to allow a six-month post-study work window for diploma and vocational students is attracting more Indian students, with numbers nearly doubling to about 10,000-11,000 annually. Ireland remains a steady choice, with student numbers between 11,000 and 15,000, thanks to its strong job market. European nations like Germany, France, and Spain are also seeing increased interest due to lower tuition and job opportunities. As uncertainty grows, students are now exploring multiple destinations and making more calculated decisions regarding their education investments.
