The Delhi government has announced a budget allocation of ₹22,236 crore for green initiatives in the 2026-27 financial year, aimed at addressing pollution and climate change. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that the expenditures of 17 key departments will be mapped to ensure alignment with environmental outcomes. Significant allocations include ₹6,485 crore for the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) to clean the Yamuna River and enhance water treatment infrastructure, ₹4,758 crore for the transport department to expand electric bus services, and ₹3,350 crore for the Public Works Department (PWD) to tackle dust pollution and develop green infrastructure. Gupta emphasized the importance of integrating environmental protection into fiscal strategies. However, the opposition Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) criticized the budget, arguing that the allocations do not reflect meaningful changes and are merely political rhetoric. They questioned the authenticity of the so-called “green budget,” suggesting that it funds routine projects rather than transformative environmental initiatives.
