Violators can face fines up to ₹50,000 as part of the initiative to protect citizens' rights to a clean environment, following a directive from the National Green Tribunal (NGT) in 2024. Under the new rules, dumping waste in public spaces such as roads, drains, and water bodies is strictly prohibited. Bulk waste generators, including institutions and businesses, will incur a ₹25,000 fine for the first violation and ₹50,000 for repeat offences. Individual offenders will face fines of ₹5,000 for the first offence and ₹10,000 for subsequent violations. Municipal commissioner Pradeep Dahiya has empowered various civic officials to enforce these rules and penalize offenders. The collected fines will be used to enhance solid waste management systems in the city. Dahiya emphasized the importance of public participation in maintaining cleanliness and urged citizens to avoid littering.
