The Central Government of India has raised alarms over ongoing rumors regarding the availability of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), revealing that only 17 states are currently holding regular press briefings to address public concerns. In a letter to Chief Secretaries of all State and Union Territories, the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MoPNG) urged local administrations to ramp up their communication efforts to prevent panic buying and hoarding. The states conducting these briefings include Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, and others. The Petroleum Secretary, Neeraj Mittal, emphasized the importance of daily press briefings and timely dissemination of accurate information via social media and other channels to reassure citizens about the adequate availability and distribution of LPG. Additionally, the Ministry has called for strict actions against those exploiting the situation for profit, including measures to curb hoarding and black marketing. This directive follows a previous warning on March 27 regarding disruptions in global supply chains due to geopolitical tensions in West Asia, which have led to an increase in misinformation about fuel prices and availability.
