CA Rudramurthy BV, the Managing Director of Vachana Investments, has issued a stark warning to Indian equity investors, advising them to steer clear of long positions until certain market conditions are met. He specifies that Brent crude oil prices must drop below $95 per barrel, the dollar-rupee exchange rate should fall below ₹92, and the India VIX must be under 15. Until these thresholds are reached, he believes any market rally should be viewed as an opportunity to short rather than buy. Rudramurthy points to significant foreign institutional investor (FII) withdrawals, totaling over ₹1.10 lakh crore this month and exceeding ₹6 lakh crore over the past two years, as a sign of declining market support. He further suggests that investors with long-term equity portfolios should consider purchasing put options as a hedge against volatility. For short trades, he specifically recommends shorting Havells India, targeting ₹1,100 with a stop loss at ₹1,185, and Lodha (Macrotech), targeting ₹630 with a stop loss at ₹685. Both stocks are seen as weak in their respective sectors, aligning with his overall bearish market outlook.
