The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has launched a strong critique against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress for their failure to address the ongoing issues surrounding the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) for nearly 25 years. During a press conference, AAP Chandigarh incharge Jarnail Singh highlighted the lack of a clear and permanent policy, which has left residents in a state of uncertainty regarding housing regulations. Singh noted that while Congress leader Manish Tewari represents Chandigarh in Parliament, the local administration remains under BJP control, resulting in policy paralysis that continues to affect residents. The criticism follows a recent demolition drive in Sector 45-D, which AAP leaders condemned as unjust. Protests ensued, leading to the detention of several AAP members, which the party labeled as an infringement on democratic rights. AAP accused both BJP and Congress of failing to fulfill promises made between 2018 and 2022, including the introduction of a “one-time regularisation scheme.” Singh emphasized the need for immediate reforms, urging the administration to halt demolitions and establish a consistent policy that would alleviate the burdens on middle-class families impacted by arbitrary enforcement of housing regulations.
