Juventus has confirmed the permanent transfer of Lois Openda from RB Leipzig for €40 million after activating a buy clause in his loan agreement. The Belgian forward joined the Serie A club on a loan deal last summer, which was perceived as a panic buy after Juventus failed to secure Randal Kolo Muani from Paris Saint-Germain. Unfortunately, Openda's performance has been underwhelming, contributing only two goals in all competitions. The obligation to buy was contingent on Juventus finishing in the top 10 of the Serie A standings, a condition that has now been met as they currently hold fourth place with 60 points. With only six matches left in the season, it is impossible for Sassuolo, in 11th place with 42 points, to surpass Juventus. While Juventus may seek to offload Openda, his high transfer fee complicates matters, making a loan deal more likely than a permanent sale.
