The Enforcement Directorate had previously frozen bank accounts and questioned several individuals, including former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, over alleged connections to the app's investors. Despite being banned, the network behind the app has re-emerged, utilizing new websites and proxy links to evade law enforcement. Investigative reporters found that registering on the platform was alarmingly easy, requiring only a ₹300 registration fee and basic personal information. The app now offers betting not only on cricket but also on various sports, political outcomes, and even adult-themed games. Authorities struggle to shut it down due to its use of offshore servers and encrypted communication, making it difficult to trace financial transactions. The Mahadev app's return serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced in combating illegal online gambling in India.
