The Chandigarh administration is preparing to float tenders for the long-awaited PGIMER-Sarangpur flyover project by the end of this month. The estimated cost has risen by approximately 10% to nearly ₹100 crore (around $12 million USD) due to rising material costs influenced by global factors, including the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. Officials expect the project consultant to submit revised cost estimates within a week, after which the bidding process will commence. This flyover aims to alleviate traffic congestion on a major corridor in Chandigarh and is projected to be completed within two years. The project had received in-principle approval from the Heritage Committee in July last year and formal clearance from the urban planning department in February this year. The engineering department proposed a double-decker design to resolve potential conflicts with a proposed Metro corridor, ensuring that the city’s heritage sectors remain undisturbed.
