The West Assam Milk Producers' Cooperative Ltd (WAMUL), known for its Purabi Dairy brand, announced a 33% increase in its turnover, reaching ₹400 crore for the fiscal year 2025-26, up from ₹306 crore in 2024-25. This growth is attributed to a significant increase in its farmer base, which now includes over 58,000 dairy farmers across Assam. The cooperative's average milk procurement has risen to 1.6 lakh litres per day (LLPD), with peak procurement surpassing 2 LLPD. In the past year, more than 900 new Dairy Cooperative Societies (DCS) were established, bringing the total to over 1,600. To maintain quality and support procurement, 11 new Bulk Milk Cooling Centres (BMC) were set up, increasing the total to 59. The cooperative's product volume, particularly in value-added segments, has seen impressive growth, with curd volume increasing by 49% and pouch milk volume by 10%. New product introductions, including ice cream and flavored milk, have further strengthened Purabi's portfolio. WAMUL's managing director, Sameer Kumar Parida, emphasized the cooperative model's strength and its commitment to sustainable livelihoods for farmers. Plans for capacity expansion include upgrading the Panjabari plant and establishing new facilities in Jorhat and Dibrugarh, aimed at enhancing the dairy value chain across Assam.
