The road under bridge (RUB) in Sarabha Nagar, Punjab, connecting to Pakhowal Road, is facing serious safety issues due to frequent wrong-side driving. Despite being designated for one-way traffic from Sarabha Nagar to Pakhowal Road, many commuters ignore the rules, leading to dangerous conditions, especially at a curve that restricts visibility. Rahul Verma, a road safety activist, highlighted that the RUB was designed to manage traffic effectively, with two separate RUBs intended for different traffic flows. However, lax enforcement has turned it into a two-way passage, increasing the likelihood of accidents. Verma suggests that permanent barriers should be installed where the RUBs converge to prevent lane changes that compromise safety. He also advocates for the imposition of fines on violators to discourage reckless behavior. The Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Jatin Bansal, acknowledged the problem and assured that necessary actions would be taken to improve road safety.
