The University of Utah has announced a contract extension for Carly Dockendorf, head coach of the gymnastics team, through 2031, despite the end of the program's impressive 49-year streak of qualifying for the NCAA championships. Athletic director Mark Harlan commended Dockendorf for her leadership, noting her success in developing student-athletes and fostering a strong team culture. Under her guidance, the Red Rocks have secured three consecutive conference titles and she has made NCAA Finals in her first two seasons, a first in NCAA gymnastics history. Dockendorf, originally from Canada, has been part of the Utah coaching staff since 2018, progressing through various roles before becoming head coach. Her predecessor, Tom Farden, was dismissed in late November 2023 due to allegations of verbal and emotional abuse towards gymnasts. Dockendorf expressed gratitude for the support from the university and emphasized her commitment to developing strong female athletes.
