The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has taken legal action against the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) by filing a petition with the Election Commission of India (ECI). The complaint targets Kairali, CPI(M)'s channel, for allegedly disseminating fabricated images intended to defame K.C. Venugopal, a member of parliament and AICC general secretary. AICC legal cell chairperson Abhisekh Singhvi emphasized that the distribution of these images on social media violated the model code of conduct. Additionally, A.A. Shukur, vice president of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), lodged a complaint at the Alappuzha North police station, accusing the channel of inciting enmity among groups, defamation, and violating the Information Technology Act. The fabricated image purportedly depicted Venugopal accepting money, which the KPCC described as an attempt to undermine the legal democratic process. This controversy emerged amid allegations that Congress leaders were involved in unethical practices to sell Assembly seats in Haryana, a claim that CPI(M) highlighted during the Kerala election campaign.
