Elections for the Mayor and deputy Mayor of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) are likely to take place in the last week of April, as confirmed by officials. The electoral college for these elections comprises 249 councillors, 14 MLAs, seven Lok Sabha MPs, and three Rajya Sabha members, with 137 votes needed to win. Currently, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) holds 141 votes, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has 106 votes. Last year, AAP abstained from the mayoral contest, enabling BJP to secure the position unopposed. In addition to the mayoral elections, the MCD is planning to conduct elections for Town Vending Committees (TVCs), which will help manage street vending across the city. Approximately 27 committees will be established, with each comprising street vendors and representatives from resident welfare associations. These committees will play a crucial role in regulating hawkers and ensuring public safety.
