The Indian government has announced a six-month extension for the implementation of energy efficiency norms for counter-top induction hobs, now set to take effect on January 1, 2027. This decision, made by the Ministry of Power, is intended to encourage the adoption of electric cooking in light of recent supply-side challenges for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) due to the ongoing crisis in West Asia. Induction hobs, which operate by generating heat through an electrical current beneath their surface, are designed to be more energy-efficient than traditional electric hobs, using less power and remaining cool until cookware is placed on them. The initial deadline for these norms was set for July 1, 2026, as per a notification published on December 8, 2025.
