The canteen at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) headquarters, located in New Delhi's Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium, has been closed for nearly a month due to rising Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) prices. The vendor operating the canteen cited a shortage of LPG supply and high operational costs as the main reasons for the shutdown. While the closure has disrupted daily routines for staff, athletes training at the venue are unaffected as their meals continue to be provided at the stadium's mess, which remains operational. Reports indicate that the vendor had initially limited services to tea but eventually ceased operations altogether. Staff members have been forced to seek meals from nearby outlets. Despite the closure, canteens at SAI's National Centres of Excellence across India continue to function without disruption, and there have been no reported LPG shortages at those facilities. The vendor, who had only recently taken over operations, faced scrutiny over high pricing for food items served during meetings, prompting intervention from SAI's Director General.
