In a significant regulatory move, the Drug Consultative Committee (DCC) in India has proposed making the installation of CCTV cameras mandatory in medical stores. This decision aims to enhance oversight by ensuring that every sale transaction is verifiable, thereby closing potential loopholes associated with poorly positioned cameras. The proposal follows recommendations from a sub-committee reviewing a Joint Action Plan by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), which raised concerns about unregulated drug sales. Additionally, the DCC plans to develop a robust Mobile app-based Information System (MIS) to consolidate drug-related data, allowing for real-time tracking of drugs that may be misused. This initiative signifies a shift from fragmented state-level record-keeping to a unified national system that regulators and policymakers can access for better monitoring of drug availability and sales patterns.
