Sakura Internet, a Japanese cloud services provider, experienced a significant stock price increase of 20.27%, reaching 2,967 JPY after Microsoft announced its plans to invest 1.6 trillion yen (approximately $10 billion USD) in Japan. This investment, set to take place between 2026 and 2029, aims to develop artificial intelligence infrastructure and enhance cybersecurity efforts in collaboration with the Japanese government. Microsoft plans to work with domestic companies, including SoftBank and Sakura Internet, to bolster AI computing capacity, allowing sensitive data to remain within Japan while utilizing Microsoft Azure services. Additionally, the initiative includes training 1 million engineers and developers by 2030, aligning with the goals of Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi to promote growth through advanced technologies. Despite a 16% decline in stock value over the past year, Sakura Internet has shown a remarkable 273% increase over the last five years.
