Prashant Bose, a top leader of the Communist Party of India (Maoist), commonly known as 'Kishan Da', passed away at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences in Ranchi, Jharkhand, on Friday. He was over 80 years old and had been imprisoned for the last four years. According to Ranchi Senior Superintendent of Police Rakesh Ranjan, Bose's health deteriorated suddenly, leading to his death during treatment. The precise cause of death is still under investigation. Bose was arrested on November 12, 2021, alongside his wife, Sheela Marandi, in Seraikela-Kharsawan district, with a bounty of ₹1 crore (approximately $120,000 USD) on his head. He was implicated in more than 100 incidents of violence and arson across various states, including Jharkhand, Bihar, and West Bengal. As a senior member of the Maoist central committee and military commission, he was believed to have been orchestrating activities from the Saranda forests in Jharkhand.
