Ghosh criticized Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's claims that outsiders are responsible for the crimes, questioning the government's and police's inaction. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju also condemned the TMC government, asserting it does not respect the Constitution and is acting outside the law. The political climate has become increasingly charged following the Malda incident, where seven judicial officers were reportedly held hostage by villagers over electoral roll disputes. In response, Banerjee accused the BJP of plotting to cancel the upcoming assembly elections and impose President's rule in the state. The West Bengal Assembly elections are set for April 23 and April 29, with results expected on May 4, following the TMC's significant victory in the 2021 elections.
