On Monday morning, 19-year-old Siya Guleria, a college student from Nain village in Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh, was brutally murdered while on her way to college. The attack occurred around 9:30 am near the Gopalpur bus stop when a motorcycle-borne assailant intercepted her and slit her throat, also stabbing her multiple times in the neck and arm. Local villagers quickly apprehended the fleeing assailant and turned him over to the police, who are currently interrogating him to determine the motive for the murder. Mandi Superintendent of Police Vinod Kumar confirmed that an investigation is underway. The incident has drawn significant public outrage, with former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur expressing his anguish on social media, stating that the crime has embarrassed the state and instilled fear in families whose daughters travel for education. He criticized the deteriorating law and order situation in the state and called for severe punishment for the perpetrator.
