The Bhairon Marg underpass in Delhi, crucial for easing traffic on Ring Road, has cleared its final hurdle with the receipt of a no objection certificate (NOC) from Indian Railways. This underpass is part of the Pragati Maidan Integrated Transit Corridor, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2022. Despite initial expectations for completion that year, the project faced delays due to various approvals and the need for coordination with railway authorities. The underpass, measuring 110 meters long, is now set to be completed by December 2023. Public Works Department Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh emphasized that all major technical issues have been resolved, and the focus is now on swift execution. The underpass is anticipated to significantly reduce traffic congestion, benefiting the over 100,000 vehicles that travel on Ring Road daily, particularly during major events at the ITPO complex. The project had previously stalled due to flooding and construction method challenges, but the adoption of a revised construction methodology is expected to facilitate timely completion within the existing budget.
