In a show of respect, players from the Punjab Kings wore black armbands during their IPL 2026 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the New PCA Stadium in New Chandigarh. This gesture was made in memory of the victims of a recent boat accident in Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh, where a boat carrying around 25-30 passengers capsized in the Yamuna River, resulting in at least 10 fatalities. The boat reportedly collided with an iron pontoon bridge near Keshi Ghat due to strong winds causing it to sway. Rescue operations, involving the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), police, and local divers, are currently underway, with medical teams attending to the injured. Senior officials, including Mathura’s Deputy Inspector General Shailesh Kumar Pandey, are overseeing the rescue efforts. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu have expressed their condolences, while Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered immediate relief measures. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has also pledged support to the families of the victims.
