As Kerala approaches the 2026 Assembly elections, both the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the opposition United Democratic Front (UDF) have unveiled their manifestos, each focusing on social welfare enhancements. The UDF's proposals include free bus travel for women, a monthly financial assistance of ₹1,000 for college-going girls, and an increase in welfare pensions to ₹3,000. Additionally, they promise a ₹25-lakh health insurance cover for every household and interest-free loans for youth entrepreneurship. The UDF also highlights 'Mission Samudra,' aimed at boosting Kerala's maritime economy through infrastructure development. On the other hand, the LDF plans to continue its Nava Kerala campaign, which includes 950 proposals, and promises to increase welfare pensions, improve housing for the poor, and generate employment for women. Both fronts have committed to developing metro rail systems in Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode, with the LDF also considering the Water Metro project in Alappuzha, Kollam, and Kodungallur. The manifestos reflect a strong focus on welfare initiatives aimed at attracting voter support.
