The first private electric bus service on the Pune-Mumbai route was inaugurated in Pune by Madhuri Misal, the Maharashtra Minister of State for Urban Development. Launched by Prasanna Purple, the service features 10 electric buses manufactured by Switch Mobility. Misal emphasized the state's commitment to sustainable transport, revealing plans to procure 3,000 electric buses and develop necessary infrastructure such as transport hubs and EV charging stations. The initiative aims to reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels and better utilize surplus electricity, particularly during nighttime charging. Prasanna Purple's chairman, Prasanna Patwardhan, highlighted the need for stronger government support, including financial incentives and improved infrastructure, to foster electric mobility. He also stressed that businesses should actively contribute to addressing transport challenges in India.
