The Maharashtra government is set to undertake a significant overhaul of the Thane–Mira Bhayandar corridor to address chronic traffic congestion on Ghodbunder Road. The Metro-10 project, a 9.7-km elevated corridor connecting Gaimukh (Retibunder) to Ghodbunder, is moving to tender next week, with construction expected to begin within three to four months and a completion target set for 2029. This project, estimated to cost ₹8,553 crore (approximately $1.03 billion USD), aims to provide a faster commuting option for residents of Thane, Mira Road, Bhayandar, and Ghodbunder. In addition, the government plans to widen Ghodbunder Road from 30 meters to 60 meters, effectively doubling its capacity, with a budget of around ₹1,200 crore (approximately $145 million USD) and a completion deadline before the monsoon. Furthermore, pod taxi services are being explored under a public-private partnership model, with project reports anticipated in six months. However, app-based taxi services like Ola and Uber face temporary license suspensions due to illegal bike taxi operations, and auto-rickshaw drivers must now demonstrate basic Marathi language skills.
