On April 1, Gurmeet Singh, a 58-year-old retired employee from UCO Bank, was fatally struck by a car while crossing the Landran-Mohali road to buy milk. The incident occurred near Taj Tile when a white Maruti Swift Dzire, driven by Azhar Ahmed from Shahi Majra, hit him, causing him to fall unconscious. Despite being rushed to the government hospital in Mohali and later referred to PGI Chandigarh, he succumbed to his injuries. His wife, Baljeet Kaur, filed a complaint, leading to the registration of a case against the driver under Sections 106 (causing death by negligence) and 281 (rash driving) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). In a separate incident on the Kharar flyover, a man named Satnam Singh died, and three others were injured after a speeding car driven by Manik collided with parked vehicles and pedestrians. The Kharar City police have also registered a case against Manik under similar charges.
