Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced that families affected by the Gaggal Airport expansion in Kangra district will receive compensation according to the Land Acquisition Act. This includes both landowners and non-landowning occupants, ensuring fair treatment for families residing on panchayat land for decades. The expansion will extend the runway from 1,376 meters to 3,110 meters, marking a significant upgrade in the state's aviation infrastructure. The total cost of the expansion is ₹3,500 crore (approximately $420 million USD), with ₹1,960 crore already allocated. The government aims to complete land acquisition by the end of the year. Additionally, discussions arose regarding the suspended flights under the UDAN scheme, with the CM confirming that ₹10 crore has been provided for Viability Gap Funding (VGF) to revive routes, including Dharamshala–Shimla. Plans for operationalizing heliports in Chamba, Palampur, and Hamirpur by June are also in place to enhance connectivity.
