The Telangana government has announced a 2.1% increase in the Dearness Allowance (DA) for Road Transport Corporation (RTC) employees, raising it from 50.7% to 52.8%, effective January 1, 2026. Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar stated that this adjustment aims to ease the financial burden on workers managing household expenses, education costs, and loan repayments. The increase is projected to add an estimated ₹2.82 crore (approximately $340,000 USD) to the RTC's monthly financial obligations. The government plans to clear pending DA dues from the previous three months through supplementary bills. This adjustment follows a prior increase in July 2025, which raised the DA from 48.6% to 50.7%. Minister Prabhakar highlighted the government's commitment to employee welfare and public transport enhancement, mentioning ongoing initiatives like hospital upgrades and new bus procurements. RTC Managing Director Y Nagireddy described the DA hike as a significant step towards prioritizing employee welfare, while officials believe it will enhance morale and service quality. Despite the financial implications, the government asserts that the additional burden is manageable with continued support.
